Guest conductor Avi Mehta is a lifelong learner, passionate about building relationships and transforming communities through music education. He is an active participant in the El Sistema-Boston community--a system of youth ensembles inspired by the music education movement in Venezuela, which uses music education as a vehicle for social change. He currently serves as one of the wind ensemble conductors at the Margarita Muniz Academy in Jamaica Plain and frequently appears as a guest conductor in other El Sistema-inspired programs both in the United States and abroad. In addition to his work with El-Sistema-inspired programs, Avi serves as the Music Director of the Randolph Community Band in the south shore of Massachusetts. His previous appointments include serving as the Artistic Director of the Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program and the Assistant Conductor of the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble at the New England Conservatory. Avi is a graduate of the Sistema Fellows Program at the New England Conservatory. He also holds an Masters in Wind Conducting from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Tuba Performance from The University of Wisconsin-Madison.

MetWinds Music Director Lewis Buckley earned his undergraduate degree from the Eastman School of Music and his Master’s degree from Connecticut College. In 1975, he became the United States Coast Guard Band’s fifth director at age 27 and held that post for 29 years. He continues to compose, arrange, and publish music. He also remains an active trumpet soloist, frequently combining solo appearances with conducting, often in premiere performances of his own commissioned works. Buckley has a diverse background, having conducted bands, orchestras, and choruses in all styles of music from classical to commercial to jazz. Now in his eleventh season with the MetWinds, Mr. Buckley has served them longer than any other music director.
