30th Annual Boston Festival of Bands: A free all day band concert

The Metropolitan Wind Symphony/MetWinds, which founded the Boston Festival of Bands, will host the 30th annual Boston Festival of Bands at historic Faneuil Hall, 1 Faneuil Hall Square, (adjacent to Quincy Market) in Boston on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The bands will play selections ranging from Broadway show music to Sousa marches to classical music. There will be music to please all tastes! Come hear a different concert band play each hour. It is a FREE band concert. The schedule for our talented list of participants is as follows:  
 
11:00 Windham Concert Band, Windham, NH, Spencer Aston, conductor. The Band serves musicians from Windham, Derry, Londonderry, Salem, Methuen, Hudson, Manchester, Nashua, and other area communities.  
 
12:00 Charles River Wind Ensemble, Boston, MA, Matthew Marsit, conductor. This group is dedicated to the performance of classical and contemporary repertoire originally conceived for winds and percussion.  
 
1:00 Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Boston, MA, Lewis Buckley, conductor. Founded in 1971, MetWinds is a 70 member concert band based in Greater Boston that is the founder/host of the Festival.  
 
2:00 Lakeshore Concert Band, Montreal, Canada, Mark Dharmaratnam, conductor. The band, through its concerts and music, raises funds for schools and charitable organizations.  
 
3:00 Boston College Symphonic Band, Newton, MA, David Healey, conductor. Dr. Healey created the Boston College Symphonic Band in the spring of 2003 to provide opportunities for musicians from throughout the Boston College community.  
 
4:00 Seacoast Wind Ensemble, Southern Maine, Mark Stickney, conductor. The Seacoast Wind Ensemble is a community band with approximately 55 members with diverse backgrounds serving New Hampshire, Northern MA, and Southern ME  
 
5:00 Chelmsford Community Band, Chelmsford, MA, Lucinda Ellert, conductor. The Chelmsford Community Band was founded in 1972 and is a volunteer group of musicians who greatly enjoy bringing live music to the greater Chelmsford area.

Founded by Jerry Gardner in 1971, the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, a concert band, is currently celebrating its 47th anniversary. MetWinds comprises over 70 talented woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists who audition for membership and seating. It makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Boston community by providing  
its audiences with high quality concerts and its members with opportunities for musical growth.  
 
This and other concerts by the MetWinds are funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
