SHAUNA SHANE, DEMONSTRATION IN ACRYLIC SPONGE UNDER-PAINTING

January 25, 2015 2 – 4pm *(snow date: Feb. 8)

The Lexington Arts and Crafts Society Painters Guild presents demonstrations by professional, award winning, locally and nationally known artists, some of who teach at the Society. The artists provide informative and inspiring demonstrations in their chosen medium. It is a wonderful opportunity to watch, learn, question and speak with the artists in a comfortable setting.

This month meet Shauna Shana, A popular demonstrator and teacher, Shauna takes pride in her ability to convey to others how to see and understand the visual world in a way that makes their artistic journey enjoyable and productive.

Shauna begins this painting demonstration with acrylic paint applied by cellulose sponges cut into wedge shaped pieces. These regular household sponges insure a thin, transparent buildup of acrylic, and create a stippled surface that is much more alive with color than a brush allows. Most importantly, this technique naturally progresses the painting shapes from large masses, building the composition in the correct order, large to small.

Pastel or oil may be applied to the surface of the painting, making this block-in method useful for many artists. In this demonstration she will add oil or pastel according to the wishes of the majority of the group present, illustrating the versatility of this technique.

Located in the Plummer Studio, Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, admission and parking are free and the public is welcome to all sessions.

Refreshments are served.
