Lexington residents' input sought on homework and buffer zones

Lexington residents' input sought on homework and buffer zones

The Lexington Public Schools are seeking input on two important matters:
1. the potential use of Buffer Zones (to limit the need for redistricting)
2. homework: Should the current homework policy be revisited and how?

From the LPS:
"Buffer Zones
Our district's enrollment is rapidly increasing and consequently, many of our schools and classrooms have reached or exceeded their capacities. As a result of this rapid growth in enrollment and, most importantly, to ensure that every child continues to have equal access to a high quality educational experience, there is a compelling need for our district to explore changes to our handling of student assignment.

Homework
Our district is also taking a close look at student homework across the grades. Parent feedback surveys and district reports indicate that at times, homework may be causing stress for our students. As a result, we plan to revisit the Lexington School Committee Homework Policy with a districtwide task force this year."
